Makhanlal Chaturvedi University orders its J&K students to disclose their account details

Popularly known as MCU, the Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Mass Communication ordered its J&K students to disclose their account details. According to the university, these orders are given by the State Police Headquarters (PHQ), however PHQ denies of issuing any such orders.

A letter dated 10th May, that was purportedly issued by PHQ, addressed to the university registrar, stated about the demand of 14 personal details of students from Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar and Jharkhand under special confidential inquiry for security reasons.

The next day, the letter was received by the university registrar and the instructions were sent out to collect information from students.

The state police headquarters however denies to have issued any such demand.

Makarand Deuskar, IG intelligence said, ‘To the best of my knowledge, no such letter was issued by the PHQ. Sanjay Dwivedi, registrar of MCU, declined comment, saying.

The purported letter seeked information about caste, religion, father’s name, permanent address, current address, mobile number, passport details, institute name, course and its duration, admission documents and even bank details.
