Jamia VC Gets Clean Chit in visitorial inquiry against him for charges of financial and administrative irregularities

In January 2016, the investigation was initiated by the Delhi High Court when the government was ordered to look into the complaint of senior professor at Jamia University. The former director of Mass Communication at the University, Professor M Obaid Siddiqui, had accused the ministry, the UGC and the President of  ignoring ‘maladministration’ at University.

The visitorial inquiry that was set up on VC of Jamia University, Talat Ahmad, is leart to have been closed by President Ram Nath Kovind after failure of finding any substance allegation. The visitorial inquiry was conducted by the Union Grant Commission for allegation of irregularities at Central University.

The inquiry by UGC was tasked to look into the charges of financial and administrative irregularities. This included a wasteful expenditure of Rs.26 lakhs and more on a visit in 2015 by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

The ministry and the UGC recommended the President for visitorial inquiry after they found Ahmad’s reply unsatisfactory in respect to certain allegations.

Obaid in his complaint filed with the HRD ministry in August 2014 and July 2015 had mentioned “the functioning of a central university has been monopolised by its officers to the detriment of legal and administrative sobriety”, reports Indian Express. The charges are not been proven by the visitorial inquiry said sources , reports Indian Express.
