Being left-handed has been considered as something to change right from the developmental stages of a child for decades. In fact, it’s even been considered as a deviance and an abnormality for centuries before that. For example, black magic was even referred to as the ‘Left-Hand Path’.
This has not been the case since though, as it’s been accepted with the changing times and mindsets. People look at right-handers and lefties as more-or-less the same now.
The world is custom made for the right handed. Roughly 11% of the world’s population has a prominent ‘left’ hand. Yet many common tools are designed solely for use by right-handed people, making them difficult, painful, or unsafe for left-handed people to use. These range from simple objects such as scissors to dangerous machinery such as power saws. Even, since 1976, Aug. 13 has been celebrated as International Left-Handers’ Day.
