Students in Kolkata detained during protest against the institutional murder of Rohith Vemula

Yesterday when students in Delhi were detained while protesting against the institutional murder of Rohith Vemula, the students in Kolkata were also detained for the same.

Rohith Vemula, Ph.D. scholar of Hyderabad University and a member of Ambedkar Students Association, committed suicide on 17th January’16 after his fellowship was stopped and got suspended from the University following a dispute with ABVP members regarding the screening of Muzaffarnagar Abhi Baki Hai where ABVP got engaged in lumpency to stop the screening.
Therefore to protest against Rohith Vemula’s institutional murder and to seek justice, students from Jadavpur University on Tuesday commemorated his death anniversary by black badging followed by staging a protest demonstration and a rally from College Street to Raj Bhawan in Kolkata. While breaking the barricades, the students raised slogans against the oppressing Modi Government and authorities of Hyderabad University as Vemula accused them of caste discrimination. The police arrested the students and were detained at Lal Bazar police station.
Avik Kumar Mondal belonging from the dalit background and also contesting in the Jadavpur University election’17 as the candidate of All India Students’ Association got arrested.
“I have taken part in this protest to enact Rohith Act. This is the high time that we should fight against the fascist BJP since justice was denied to Vemula. This Rajbhawan march  was to protest against the hooliganism of BJP  and seek justice for Rohith Vemula.” said Avik.
