Honest Review of Placement and Internship Opportunities at Army Institute of Management, Kolkata

This article is dedicated to the placement record and the internship opportunities, available at the Army Institute of Management, situated at Kolkata. Students who have been a part of this institute will share their unbiased view about the college.

Established in the year 1997, it is a NAAC ‘B’ Grade Accredited and AICTE approved institution. Currently, it is affiliated with the Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad University of Technology, Kolkata.

A rather established Institute for the MBA degree in the state of Kolkata, the Army Institute of Management was awarded an all India rank of 43 this year.  At the state level, the college also has an AAA rating. It was also ranked 80th and 104th ranks for its MBA program by Business Today and The Week in 2015 and 2016, respectively.

There’s more to the list of recognitions and awards! The Army Institute of Management also received a Certificate of Excellence and was placed in the A++ category in the B-School Survey by Chronicle, this year. At the same time, it is also the recipient of the ‘B-School Leadership Award’ by Innovative Education Awards, 2017 and of the ‘World Education Congress Global Award 2016’.

The management course offered in Business Administration (MBA) at Army Institute of Management, is of two-year duration, and a full-time residential course. Also, this course is offered alongside four specializations, namely; Marketing, Finance and System and Human Resource Management.

Their course curriculum is also designed such that, a four week, exclusive, the summer internship is inculcated for the students. On an important note, of the total 120 seats for the course, 96 are reserved for Army wards and rest are for general category.

Moving on, to the most important part of any degree; it’s value of money that is placement and job prospects and return on investment.

Now, after course completion at Army Institute of Management, an average salary package of Rs. 5 lakhs p.a. is offered and their highest package, that has been offered till date was about, Rs. 14 lakhs p.a. Sales, Business Development, Banking and Insurance, Marketing and Advertising are some of the most common, offered job profiles.

Most of the recruiters that come for campus placements are notable companies in their respective industrial sectors and markets. They include; Aditya Birla Group, Amul, Bajaj Finserv,  Berger Paints, Coca-Cola, Dabur, Daimler,  Decathlon, GODREJ, HDFC Bank, ICICI, IMRB, ING Vysya, ITC Ltd., KPMG, Matrix cellular ltd. , Micromax, Mother Dairy, PepsiCo, PWC, Standard Chartered Bank, TATA Chemical Limited, TCS, Virtusa etc. to name a few.

“Placements are good at this college. It has a record of 100% placement for the past few batches. Many good companies like Bajaj Finserv, Godrej, ITC, Asian Paints are the regular recruiters. The average package for the previous batch was 5.5 lacs per annum. The college also provides internship to almost all the students. This year, the highest stipend offered was 30k per month.”

“Placements are the best thing that this college offers. It is well-known for its 100% placement record and it has delivered the same since last 20 batches that this college has inducted.

It has been very consistent in placements and the alumni body of this organization is working more in increasing the quality of the placement.

The highest salary offered in 2015-17 batch no. 19 was 14 lacs, which was offered by Amazon.com for the post of Customer Relationship Manager and the lowest package offered was 3.6 lacs by All India Reporter. The college boasts of an average package of 5 lacs per annum.

The majority of the campus placements were done in the Insurance sector, with a big chunk of 45% of the students getting placed in this sector, 35% of students in FMCG sector, followed by Digital marketing.

Companies that regularly visit for campus placement are CredForce, L&T Finance, Amazon, Godrej, ICICI Bank, HDFC AMC, MarketOne, Allstate Insurance, Birla AMC, Decathlon, Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Electricals, Bajaj Allianz, TCS IT, ITC Hotels, etc.

There are two internships offered in the college – Winter internship and Summer Internship. Winter internship is voluntary while summer internship is compulsory. The college provides Summer Internship for all the students with a minimum stipend of 3,000 and a maximum of 10,000 depending upon the negotiation skills of the particular student. There are some cases where students are not given any stipend.

Overall, the college puts a lot of efforts in providing internship and job, along with the student coordinator being involved in the process.”

“The college has a placement cell which has high-level contacts in the corporate world and a strong network with leading HR managers across India. A few reputed international and national companies in which students are placed are HCL Infosystems, Madison Street, Nitco Tiles, TCIL, Genpact, Metal Junction, Odessa Technologies, Federal Bank etc.

The highest salary- 8.4 lacs PA and the average salary- 3.61 lacs PA.”

“Placement wise it is great, one can definitely gain ROI. If I talk about my batch, seniors and juniors all had performed extremely well as taught by the faculty.

About 99% got placed with tycoons of the industry with the highest package of 14 lakh and an average of 4-5 lakh. As per the policy, no firms with a package of less than 4 are entertained by us. The major firms that have visited so far include Nestle, Godrej, ITC, Amul, Mother Dairy, Berger, Asian Paints, TCS, Accenture, Market One, Altimatrix, big telecom giants and banking firms. “There are some top companies coming for the campus placement every year like TCS, Bajaj, L&T, Mother Dairy etc for MT profile. 90-95% students got the campus placement in our batch as well as my senior batches. 100% students got the internship through the college itself (except those who got by their own references). The highest stipend was offered at 15,000 by SBI.”

Frequent seminars and specialized lectures and visits are organized, thus making sure the students are equipped for the competitive world. Many times, students have found the strong alumni network at the Army Institute of Management, quite appealing.

And overall, the best part is that all of this is an affordable and decent cost of Rs. 5.82 Lakhs in total. A master’s degree at this college definitely provides a good return on investment, when the placement records, academic opportunities at the college are considered, carefully.
