IISc Bangalore creates history, becomes first Indian University to Rank in Top 10 Universities of the World

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore has created history by making entry into the top 10 global university rankings. On Tuesday, the Times Higher Education (THE) released the ‘Best Small Universities in the World 2017’ in which IISc ranked 8.Small universities are those with fewer than 5,000 students. Last year, there were two Indian institutions IIT Guwahati and Savitribai Phule Pune University in the top 20, though none were in top 10. However, besides IISc, no other Indian University has managed to grab any position under the top 20 ranking.This International Ranking system correlates data from around the world and compares thousands of Universities on various parameters of excellence, quality of curriculum, international exposure and so on.

California Institute of Technology or CalTech of the United States of America continues to retain as top university while South Korea’s Pohang University of Science and Technology is at the third place.

IISc is a university for scientific research and higher education. In 2015-16 it became the first Indian institute to be ranked among the top 100 in THE World University Rankings for engineering and technology at 99th position.
