Students warn DU administration to abolish Fee-hike

The admissions for the undergraduate courses to the University of Delhi started on Tuesday, 19th June. It has been observed that there has been a multi-fold fee hike across courses in various colleges of the university. So, now students as well as the teachers are protesting against the attack on ‘autonomy’ in Delhi University.

Every college releases a report or bulletin for yearly academic sessions and admissions which includes all aspects and minute details for the admission but somehow, the fees charged in some colleges is much more than what is mentioned in the bulletin. On a large scale, few affiliated colleges of the university are trying to cheat people.

There is a hike of 36% seen in the fees of Deen Dayal Upadhyay College for Humanities stream which has risen up to ₹ 15,610 from ₹ 11,460 in a year. Correspondingly, the fees for Bachelor of Management Studies has risen 28% from ₹ 14,460 to ₹ 18,610. The fees for BA (Honors) Applied Psychology in Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College faced a 120% hike i.e. from ₹ 4490 to ₹ 9895.

The colleges not even spare the basic amenities provided by them. The garden fee for Dyal Singh College has been increased from ₹ 25 to ₹ 300 while the sports fee increased from ₹ 600 to ₹ 1500 and all of these moves happened without any permission from the governing body.

There’s no doubt that DU is a hub of reforms whether it is Semesterisation, Four Year Undergraduate Program (FYUP) or Choice Based Credit System (CBCS), they never failed to play with the lives of the students and now the administration is heading further towards privatization and commercialization of education to fulfill the needs of their ruling masters.

Students Federation of India (SFI) cautioned the DU administration to abolish the anti-student fee hike otherwise it will be energetic protests across DU. SFI will raise the movement against fee-hike and autonomy in the upcoming days to maintain the student and teacher fraternity to resist the attacks on public funded education.
