New Delhi:30-05-2014

Yesterday in New Delhi  a group of social activists burnt the effigy of newly sworn Minority affairs minister Najma Heptullah over her remarks on muslims.
On Tuesday Najma Heptullah said Muslims are not minorities by any stretch of the imagination and instead Parsis with their dwindling population qualified for the tag.
This controversial statement was unexpected from an experienced politician, who is the grand-niece of freedom fighter Abul Kalam Azad and oldest minister in NDA government.

Najma Hepetullah should read what her great grandfather Abul Kalam Azad said on the topic of minorities when the constitution was being drafted to understand the meaning of minorities said Khalid Jaleel,Editor of Jamia Journal.
In his presidential address at the Ramgarh Congress in 1940, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, explained the meaning of being a minority “It is not enough that the group should be relatively the smaller, but that it should be absolutely so small as to be incapable of protecting its interests. Thus this is not merely a question of numbers; other factors count also. If a country has two major groups numbering a million and two millions respectively, it does not necessarily follow that because one is half the other, therefore it must call itself politically a minority and consider itself weak. If this is the right test, let us apply it to the position of the Muslims in India. You will see at a glance a vast concourse, spreading out all over the country; they stand erect, and to imagine that they exist helplessly as a ‘minority’ is to delude oneself.”

President of United Muslims Front Mr. Shahid Ali (Advocate) stated that United Muslims Front has organized the program of Effigy burning being deeply sadden on her statement. He further stated that her statement reflects the mind set of BJP and that out of a calculated strategy in order to oust and deprive Muslims from the so called privileges of being minority, impugned statement of Smt. Najma Heptullah had come. He further stated that if such statements are allowed to persist and demonstrate and agitations are not take place, there is every likelihood that they will oust Muslims from Minority list and in the eventuality Aligarh Muslim University and Jamia Milia Islamia University will lost the character of being Minority Institute, for which the Constitution of India empowered minorities to run and administered their own institutes. Mr. Shahid Ali also vehemently condemn the act of Smt. Najma Heptullah whereby, she set aside the recommendations of earlier government thereby reserving the four percent of employment for minority section.
