Our Space Missions become “COMMERCIAL”

They started from a mere load of 20 kg in 1962 in a small village of Thumba under the name of INCOPSAR. Within a small span of seven years, they came to a point of organization named as Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

Today after 46 years of hard work and turmoil of our scientists, we reached a stage of “Commercial Missions”.

On 10th July, Friday at 9:58pm India entered the elite group of the country which undertakes Commercial Missions. This was the first commercial mission for ISRO in 2015.

The president said: “My heartiest congratulations to you and your entire team at the Indian Space Research Organization for the successful launch of PSLV-C28, carrying 5 satellites.”
The Prime Minister said: “It was a moment of “immense pride” for India.

Successful launch of PSLV with five UK satellites is a moment of immense pride and joy for India. Congratulations to the ISRO team”.

  • It was the heaviest commercial mission for the PSLV rocket till date though its total carrying capacity for such a mission is around 1,750 kgThe rocket blasted off from the first launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre here, about 80 km from Chennai.
  • Of the five British satellites, three are identical DMC3 optical earth observation satellites weighing 447 kg.
  • Of the other two satellites, CBNT-1 weighs 91 kg and also is an optical earth observation technology demonstration microsatellite, while the De-Orbit Sail weighs 7 kg.

 

  • The whole mission was completed just over 19 minutes into the flight as planned.
