NIRBHAYA RAPE CASE: WE WANT JUSTICE

NIRBHAYA GANG RAPE: WE WANT JUSTICE

What an ironical situation it is…

On one side, India is a land where women is worshipped as a goddess and on other side we observe anniversaries of Rape Cases.

One such anniversary is the Third Anniversary of Nirbhaya Gang Rape Case. On the ill-fate night of 16 December(2012), a paramedical student was brutally gang raped by six men in the moving bus, that too in our national capital. The horrific incident generated widespread national and international coverage and was widely condemned, both in India and abroad.

Of the six, Ram Singh died in police custody in Tihar jail. The juvenile involved was just six months short of 18 years and was convicted of rape and murder, was also given the maximum sentence of three years’ imprisonment in a reform facility. Four others were handed the death by hanging by the high court; their appeal with the Supreme Court is pending.

Supreme Court stayed the execution of Vinay Sharma (21) and Akshay Thakur (29), who were convicted along with other two — Mukesh (27) and Pawan Gupta (20) — whose death sentence has already been stayed. So, it has been decided that on December 20, the lone juvenile convict in the Nirbhaya rape and murder will walk free unless the Delhi high court acts on the government’s plea to extend his stay in an observation home.

People were immensely shocked after listening this news of the rapist getting free. AAPKA TIMES had a talk with the youngsters of the same age group

They have expressed their concerns below-:

[box type=”shadow” ] Nikita Bhan(Research scholar, Amity University): looking at the intricacy of the matter, the juvenile should not be released. The case has been declared as the rarest of the rare cases. The IB report too suggests that the juvenile has been radicalised. Justice will not be served if the juvenile is released. In addition his release will encourage the under 18 crimes brigade. [/box]

[box type=”shadow” ] Mansi Sharma (B.tech, SRM university): NO! NO! NO! … government should not release him… he committed such a horrible crime that he can’t be free. What is wrong with our judicial system? These people must not be hanged instead treated with same level of unkindness with which they committed the pathetic crime…otherwise people will loose their trust on judicial system of our INDIA.. [/box]

[box type=”shadow” ] Naina Grover(Bharati college): The accused in no way must be set free. Such heinous crimes need a life timed year imprisonment or sheer death as a sentence. Nothing so short could ever suffice the justice to such intolerance behaviour.[/box]

[box type=”shadow” ]Rishab joshi(CA student): If juvenile will be released then it will be a shame of parliament, shame of Indian government, shame of Indian law, shame of Indian people & ultimately shame of India.[/box]

[box type=”shadow” ] Sherin Gupta(b.sc Lady Irwin College): NO! Ofcourse not! , he should get the sentence till death.. under age hone ka matalb yeh nai ki koi bhi crime kro and free ho jao..[/box]

[box type=”shadow” ]Aakansha Sehgal(chemistry(honours) Swami Shradhanand College): As per me juvenile’s term should be extended to at least ten more years and steps should be taken to make him aware about the importance of women in our society. He should be made t work with NGOs in jail only and really feel guilty of his doings. Releasing him will not have a positive impact on the society.[/box]

[box type=”shadow” ]Mohd.Swaleh Shamim(b.com, Motilal Nehru College):: He should not be free otherwise under 18 years will be encouraged and do other big crimes…agar use release krdia jata hai to esse bachon pe bahut galat effect padega… india should made some strict rules regarding this crime and juvenile should not be free..[/box]
