He is a common man in ‘A Wednesday’ who emphatically brings out the potential in every ordinary human being to avenge against a weak system. He is the Cyrus Pithavala from Parzania and Khan saheb from Firaaq who suffered because of the disturbing aftermath of Gujarat riots. He can also be known as the DK from the cult movie Masoom, an infidel to his wife trying to save his marriage and also raise his boy; or the petty criminal Khalujaan from Ishqiya. He won’t let you down even if he plays a 70s haughty, egoist superstar Suryakanth in The Dirty Picture or the mean and immoral Maulana Wali in Khuda Kay Liye. In every role he has played, he has proved himself to be indispensable to cinema.

Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah turned 65 on 20th of this month. He is the winner of three National Film and Filmfare awards. He was into acting from the very early years of his life. By the time he was in college, he had already acted in various plays and even organized a Shakespearean drama with his friends. In Bollywood, he made his brilliant debut with much acclaimed Shyam Benegal’s ‘Nishant’ in 1975. The movie won a national award and even got nominated for Oscars. He established a theatre group named Montley Productions in 1977, through which he produced their first play, ‘Waiting for Godot’ which is considered a masterpiece. Shah has acted in Pakistani as well as international movies. As a director, he has even directed plays written by Ismat Chughtai and Manto. He is not just a mainstream Bollywood actor but also a grounded theatre person.

He has earned respect and love from millions of fans around the world. It is his ability to infuse complexity & layers to characters that sets him apart. And every single fan wishes for him a longer life so that he keeps springing with surprising characters, through the admirable virtue he possesses.
