Maldives’ National University Chancellor visits AMU

Universities in India have had educational bonds and associations with foreign universities especially with countries of the subcontinent. Aligarh Muslim University, one of the leading educational institutions in India has a history of cultural association with Maldives . The first President of Maldives, Mohammed Amir Hilmy was an alumnus of AMU. Taking the legacy forward Dr. Mohammed Latheef, the Chancellor of the National University of Maldives visited the Aligarh Muslim University to meet Vice-Chancellor Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah, Pro Vice Chancellor Brig. S Ahmad Ali and other faculty of the University with a proposal to further strengthen the relations between the two universities. Dr. Mohammed Latheef, a former Minister of Education and former Ambassador of Maldives to UN and USA was visiting the university on a cultural sponsorship programme of the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR), MEA, Govt. of India. AMU’s VC Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah gave a brief tour to the guests to the historical buildings of the University including Sir Syed Hall and Sir Syed’s House. The visiting guests were also shown the Maulana Azad Library and its rare manuscripts. Several University officials like Registrar Prof. Ashraf Ali Khan, Controller, Prof. Javed Akhtar ,FM Prof. S.M Javaid Akhtar and Proctor Prof. Mohsin Khan were also present to brief the guests about the University and its achievements in the past few years.

As a token of love and honour the Vice Chancellor and Mrs. Sabiha Simi Shah presented Dr. Mohammed Latheef and his wife Mrs. Shakeela Hameed with a memento.
