Majority of MBAs, B Techs among 19000 applicants for 114 posts of sweepers

In a bizarre incident the municipality in Amroha received 19,000 applications for the post of 114 posts of ‘safai karamchari’. But with a catch! So what shocked the municipality officers was the application they received for the sweepers were mostly from B.Techs,BA, BSc,MBA, and MA passouts.

Unemployment has gripped the country so much that MBAs, B Techs have applied for the 114 posts of sweepers in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha. The salary for “safai kramchari” post is Rs 17,000 per month, while no educational qualifications are required for the posts.According to reports officials of the body are expecting yet more applications, the state has ordered the selection process to be put on hold as organisations representing sweepers have protested, demanding that the posts be reserved only for Valmikis.While no educational qualification is required for the posts, municipal officials have been overwhelmed by the number of highly qualified applicants so far.

“The process of uploading application forms for all 114 posts is still going on and we have uploaded 5,000 of the 19,000 received. Most are graduates, postgraduates, BTechs and even MBAs,” said Amroha municipality superintendent Faiz Alam.

The salary for each post is Rs 17,000 per month. Meanwhile, the state government has put the entire process on hold on the chief minister Akhilesh Yadav’s orders, said Afsar Parvez, chairman of the civic body.

“The Valmiki community has protested against the recruitment because a large number of graduates and postgraduates from other castes have applied. A delegation of the Valmiki community met the CM and demanded that the jobs be reserved for them,” he stated.
