Know about the Changes in JEE Main Eligibility Criteria for B.Arch

The Council of Architecture has revised eligibility criteria to include Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as mandatory subjects at 10+2 level for admission to 1st year of 5-Year B.Arch course. The amendment has been brought in with the approval of Central Government, the Council informed the National Testing Agency, which from now will conduct the JEE Main 2019 examination instead of CBSE. The scores of Joint Entrance Examination are used for admission in B.Arch in the country.

NTA has announced the change of eligibility criteria for those candidates applying for JEE Main 2019 Paper II. The mock test sessions of NTA will start from September 8 at 2600 test practicing centers in 3 languages. Meanwhile, the test papers can either be downloaded and practiced offline or a candidate can visit the Test Practice Centers (TPC) of National Testing Agency.  Registrations to these free TPC are open on the weekly basis since these centers are active every weekend. NTA has also released content based lectures by IIT Professors/Subject Experts. The registrations for JEE Main 2019, January exam has already started from September 1 where aspiring candidates can register and pay the registration fee till October 1, 2018.

Recently, Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the National Testing Agency will work to improve entrance examinations starting from this year. NTA from this year will conduct various examinations including Joint Entrance Examination for Admission in Engineering Colleges, National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for admission in Medical Course. However, the JEE Advance for admission in IITs will be conducted by IIT where the examination will be conducted twice in a year for undergraduate engineering admissions.

According to the latest notification released by NTA, JEE Main 2019 Paper II, for students aspiring B.Tech from IITs will be conducted in both formats namely computer-based format (Mathematics and Aptitude) and pen and paper-based test format(Drawing). Further, NTA made clear that there will be no change in the syllabus, exam pattern, fee or language of the exam.

According to a statement from the NTA, the amendment has been published in the Official Gazette on June 06, 2017 and comes into force from the academic session 2019-2020.

The revised eligibility for B.Arch course is stated as under: “No candidate shall be admitted to architecture course unless she/he has passed an examination at the end of the 10+2 scheme of examination with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics and also 50% marks in aggregate of the 10+2 examination”.

“In view of the modifications in the qualifications prescribed by the Council of Architecture as mentioned above, the eligibility conditions prescribed for admission to B.Arch/B. Planning hereby stands modified,” said a notification from NTA. It has also told the candidates who have applied for these courses to ascertain their revised eligibility conditions prescribed by the Council of Architecture.

JEE Main Paper 2 Exam Pattern

JEE Main B. Arch examination goes on for a duration of 3 hours and includes three sections namely Mathematics, Aptitude and Drawing/Sketching Test. The language for aptitude test is English only and further, during the examination students are only allowed to carry their own geometry box set, erasers, pencils, crayons and color pencils where borrowing from other candidates is strictly prohibited.

A candidate aspiring to pursue B. Arch. in the prestigious IIT Kharagpur or IIT Roorkee is required to clear the Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT). Students who secure a rank in JEE (Advanced) are eligible to sit for AAT, and this is held only at the seven zonal IITs. Thereby, in order to get B. Arch course in these institutions, one must clear Paper 1(B. Arch. / B. Planning.) of JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced and AAT. However, for admissions to the institutions other than the IITs, JEE Main Paper 2(B. Arch. / B. Planning) scores are considered.
