Jamia students to do Mural Painting at JMI Metro station depicting the journey of Jamia through its buildings

Students and Teacher of the Fine Arts faculty of Jamia would be doing a mural painting at the newly started Jamia Millia Islamia Metro station lying on Magenta line .The upcoming painting would be telling the story of Jamia through its buildings and campus life. A line from the Jamia Anthem(Jamia Tarana) will also be written with the painting. A team comprising of Shah Abul Faiz, a teacher at Fine Arts Faculty and some of his students will do the job. A proposal to do mural painting was given to DMRC by Mr.A.P Siddiqui, Registrar, JMI in July 2017. After continuous followup by Jamia, DMRC has finally given its approval on 21stDecember 2017.

DMRC has not only approved the painting which will come up at the metro station but has also agreed to pay for the cost of painting material and honorarium to the students who will be executing the job. DMRC has handed over the demand draft to Jamia and the work at the site is expected to start soon. The said painting will come-up on the wall next to the ticket window which is on the entry side of the metro station, adjacent to Faculty of Fine Arts of JMI. Before sending the proposal to DMRC the painting was shown to Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, JMI who liked the idea and asked for some changes in the painting. After necessary changes the proposal along with proposed painting was sent to DMRC for approval.

The painting is now also being used by the Vice Chancellor’s office on the New Year greeting cards. Professor Ahmad said ” I’m happy…. We tried that some mural painting should come up at Jamia Metro Station which could tell the history of Jamia , as to how it has evolved over the years, what changes have been made in the architecture of buildings in Jamia. Now the buildings based on modern architecture is coming up at Jamia which are different from its old buildings. People will get to know through this painting how Jamia has evolved over the years. We have used this painting in the new year greeting card as well and I hope people would like it.”

DMRC has a policy of utilising its premises for the promotion of art and culture. Apart from having a museum inside the Patel Chowk station, DMRC has installed decorative panels, art works at various stations such as Mandi House, Janpath, ITO, Udyog Bhawan, INA, Govind puri and now JMI metro station would be next in the list.
