Jamia students join hands for quake victims

In the wake of the Nepal earthquake, that killed many, several volunteers, individuals and organizations have extended support to the victims.As Nepal has been receiving international aid, several citizens in Delhi too are doing their bit. Individuals,NGOs,Companies and students are sending food, water and other necessary material to the affected area.

Despite the on-going examinations, Jamia Students’ Forum(JSF), a group of students from Jamia Millia Islamia including some Nepali students collected money,packaged Foods,water bottles , Medicine , Clothes etc.The 5 day camp was started on April 28, 2015 in the campus of the university and the students also collected funds outside the campus by visiting shopping centers .

125 cartons of water bottles, 5 cartons of Maggie, 10 cartons of Rusk,6 cartons of soap, 2 cartons of sanitary napkins, 1carton of tooth brush,1 carton of tooth pest,2 cartons of Dalia, 1 carton of Mosquito repellent, 1 carton of frooti,  4 cartons of medicines and 28 cartons of clothes dispatched by the Jamia Students’ forum today on May 4, 2015 through the Operation Maitri,the ongoing rescue and relief operation in Nepal by the government of India and Indian armed forces in the aftermath of the Nepal earthquake.

Nanshu, Jamia student from Nepal, who part of a group collecting funds outside central canteen , said: “We had been collecting funds since 28 april and the response we had received was very positive. It was pleasant to see that people were ready to donate money for a genuine cause.”

“We also managed to collect Rs 1 Lakh 30 thousands  in cash and we purchased medicines and eatable items out of those collected money and now we are left with Rs 1 lakh  which will be sent to the All Nepal Teachers’ Association and they will buy food items and distribute in affected areas where they already are working.” said Choudhary Imran Khan,Jamia student.
The hardwork and dedication of Jamia students have been appreciated by Jamia Administration as the Prof.Tasneem Mennai, Dean Students’ Welfare, Jamia Millia Islamia said ” I really appreciate my students who worked very hard and took this initiative and managed their precious time for the social cause during exams.”

Hafsa Aman, Md. Khalid Hasan,Meeran Haider,Naqi Mohd, Sushav Niraula,Kunalika Singh,Nanshu Pokharel,Abhishek Pundir,Praveen Kumar,Choudhary Imran Khan,Abid,Mohammad Sheez and Sangeet were the part of the organizing team
