Jamia organizes workshop on “How to make Autonomous Robot using ROS”

Centre For Innovation and Entrepreneurship-Jamia Millia Islamia organized two days workshop on “How to make Autonomous Robot using Robot Operating System (ROS)”.Workshop was organized during 29 and 30th September. Around 50 Students from different colleges participated in this workshop. Participating students were trained and mentored by the student innovators of Jamia to implement their ideas successfully in field of Robotics.

During this workshop, a team of student innovators of Centre For Innovation and Entrepreneurship-Jamia Millia Islamia working on Autonomous Robots and Quadcopter through ROS from last one year. They are also the Winners of e-Yantra Robotics Competition (EYRC – 2017), e-Yantra is a National Level Robotics Competition organized by IIT Bombay and MHRD every year.

“I came Jamia to attend this workshop because experts in this field are not easily available as it is one of the emerging technology worldwide and it was a nice opportunity for me that I got chance to attend this workshop in Delhi and I learnt how to code and implement Robot in simulator” said Omair Saifullah One of the participant from Jamia Hamdard.

Robot Operating System (ROS) is well-reputed and highly used open source tool in the sector of Robotics and it is used in Autonomous Robots. The Robot Operating System (ROS) is a flexible framework for writing robot software. It is a collection of tools, libraries, and conventions that aim to simplify the task of creating complex and robust robot behavior across a wide variety of robotic platforms.

“For the long time, were looking for the places where we can undertake training for ROS but we could not find any such good training places in Delhi so we started learning by our self and implementing it in our real time projects supported and mentored by Centre For Innovation and Entrepreneurship .Learning curve of ROS is very steep and we started this initiative to spread the technical awareness about it.”Said Kashif Khurshid Noori, one of the trainers in the workshop.

“It is very nice to see that our students are developing their skills and taking initiatives to deliver their knowledge among other students. We have been encouraging and supporting them to take similar initiatives” Said Prof. Zishan Husain Khan, Director, Centre For Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Manish Kumar Mishra, Md Zafaryab Abdullah and Mohd. Omar Iqbal were among other trainers who delivered the session during workshop.
