Jamia hosts IEEE INDICON 2015

The Department of Electrical Engineering, JMI is organizing an International Conference IEEE INDICON-2015 from December 18-20, 2015. The Plenary Session of IEEE INDICON-2015 will be held on 18th December 2015 between 11.30 am to 1:00 pm at M.A. Ansari Auditorium, Jamia Millia Islamia. The theme of the session is “Key Industry/Societal Trends in the Future of Smart Grid for India”. A smart grid delivers electricity from suppliers to the consumers using digital technology to increase reliability of the system with conservation of energy and reduction in cost. It offers advent remote control and automation technologies to provide 21st century high quality power. Smart Grid will act as a backbone infrastructure to enable new business models like smart city, electric vehicles, smart communities apart from more resilient and efficient energy system and tariff structures.

The session will be chaired by John D McDonald Director, GE Digital Energy, Atlanta. He will talk about Distribution Automation. Other plenary speakers include:

· Roger Fujii, IEEE CS President 2016 (IT for Smart grid Applications)

· Roberto De Marca, IEEE President 2014 (Communications for smart environments)

· Saifur Rahman, IEEE PES President Elect 2016, Director, ARI, Virginia Tech (Role of the smart grid in Renewable Integration)

· Mohd Shahidehpour, IIT Chicago, Founder Editor, IEEE Transactions on Smart grid (Microgrids- A new hub in smart energy infrastructure)

This conference which is annually hosted by prestigious academic institutions in India will be the 12th of the INDICON series. The conference at Jamia has received 2195 papers out which 945 papers were accepted by the conference organizers. There would be 90 oral presentation sessions and the footfall is likely to be anywhere between1100-1200. At any point of time there would be 500+ participants attending various sessions. Six different tracks have been identified for INDICON 2015. Track 1: Electronics & Nano-Technology Track 2&3: Power and Energy, Environment & Electrical Engineering, Track 4: Communications and Signal Processing, Track 5: Computer * Information Technology, Track 6: Control & Instrumentation.

The Paper/ Panel Sessions would be 103, 8 tutorials, 1 plenary session, 6 keynote sessions and 4 industry panel sessions. The total technical session would be122 and over 800 speakers would address these sessions at various venues over three days

The Plenary session is devoted to understanding “Key Industry/Societal Trends in the Future of smart Grid for India”.

The university has made elaborate arrangements at multiple venues for various sessions. Institutions like DST, MNRE, DRDO, BARC, GE, NTPC, among others, have come forward to offer sponsorships for this international event.

This is the second conference organized by the Department of Electrical Engineering,

JMI this year.
