Guide to admission in M.A. in Social Work (MSW) in Jamia Millia Islamia

Important dates for the admission procedure and entrance exam have already been announced by the Jamia Millia Islamia University. Students are busy filling-up the forms and preparing for the exams.

One master’s course that has made its place in the list of one of the top courses of the University is MA Social Work. This program is offered by the Department of Social Work.

Overview of the course

The objective of teaching this 2-year Masters’s program is to enrich students with deeper knowledge so they can serve society. This course serves as a way for the students to become a clinical social worker. Students who complete this program are eligible for working as a clinical social worker in medical, mental health, educational, and various other fields.

Who can apply?

Students of any field who have completed their graduation with more than 50% merit are eligible for this course.

How to apply?

The written entrance exam carries a weightage of 80 marks. Out of these, 20 marks questions are from English, 20 marks for reasoning and 40 marks for General Awareness. All the questions come in an objective format. Selected candidates will be called for a personal interview and GD to be held on the campus of the University itself. Your GD and PI will carry 10 marks each. The entrance exam has a rule of negative marking, i.e. 0.25 marks will be deducted for a wrong answer.

The GD will comprise of a group of 10 students each who will be called in the seminar room. They will be given a topic and students will be allotted 5 minutes to prepare.

For the PI, prepare about yourself and try to study deeply about general and current affairs.

Admission and reservations

There are 42 seats available in this course. Out of the total ones, 50% are reserved for General category and the rest are as follows:

Muslims: 30%

Muslim Women: 10%

Muslim OBCs and STs: 10%

Persons with Disabilities: 5%

Entrance exam schedule for 2020

The written entrance exam will be held on 08/06/2020 from 14:00 – 15:30. The names of students called for the Group Discussion and interview will be released on the JMI website on 22/06/2020. The interview is expected to take place on 26/06/2020, and the final result will be declared between 04/07/2020 to 09/07/2020.

Fee structure

A student is expected to pay INR 10,200/- per year as the course fee. You are expected to pay the complete amount collectively, they do not let you pay in installments.
