Pramod Kumar Shrivastava, the principal of SS Girl’s Senior Secondary School in Bihar was detained by police on Tuesday after the answer scripts of class 10th examination went missing from one of the evaluation centres.

SSP Manu Maharaj said,”Further, action will be taken after the interrogation.” The principal is detained by the police for questioning and a team from Gopalganj will also interrogate him.

The incident revealed itself when two officials from BSEB, Sujeet Kumar and Pradeep Kumar, reached the school to collect the copies of toppers for verification. No answer scripts were found at the centre. The verification of toppers was supposed to start from Sunday and was to continue for three days.

The news reached the school principal while he was in his hometown of Padrauna, UP. He immediately rushed to Gopalganj.

“The officials wanted 12 answer copies of two students including science, social science, Hindi, English, Sanskrit and mathematics. However, we managed to find only few answer copies, while the remaining were missing. I told the BSEB officials that I will send the answer copies as soon as I get. But they said they wanted it by Sunday. After thorough search, we found that several bags of answer copies were missing from the strong room where all the evaluated copies were kept on April 5 after the evaluation of answer copies. Apart from me, only the caretaker Chattu Singh has the key of the strong room,” said Shrivastava.

An FIR was lodged on Sunday,17th by the principal, said the Town SHO Ravi Kumar.

“In a complaint, school principal Shrivastava said around 214 bags of evaluated answer copies, which consist around 40,000 copies, went missing. The investigation is underway and the police are questioning the school staffs. There was no sign of forced entry at the strong room in preliminary investigation. According to sources, only principal and caretaker have the keys of the room,” said the Town SHO.

Sources claim that police is suspecting 21 staff members working at the school. A lot of commotion was witnessed at the BSEB office as the culprit is not identified even after 48 hours and the results were to be announced on 20th June.

This incident also has a political aspect to it. The opposition, the RJD government was quick to blame Bihar government.

“Tomorrow the results of matric exam will be out but only today the honest pro-Nitish officials of the notorious for education scandal, corruption and misdeeds tainted Bihar board came to know that 42 thousand answer sheets of the Board’s class X were missing and on June 20 they have to declare results.”, said former deputy CM, Tejaswi Yadav.
