Digital Resource Centre inaugurated in AMU

ALIGARH September 16:
A Digital Resources Centre (DRC) inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah in the Maulana Azad Library to facilitate students and researchers with easy access to the vast repository of e-books and other e-resources available on internet.

On this occasion, a website of the Digital Resource Centre was also launched providing links to millions of e-books, e-journals, research papers, e-theses and dissertations, academic and statistical database, subject gateways, reference sources and other resources including audio books.

The Digital Resource Centre, which is equipped with the state-of-the-art facilities, including 100 computers and high speed internet accessibility, provides students and faculty members with an access to a large online repository of e-books.

The Vice Chancellor also inaugurated an Oriental Division in the New Block of the Maulana Azad Library which houses more than 1.5 lakh books and resource material for research in Arabic, Persian, Urdu, Hindi and Sanskrit. Maulana Azad Library hosts one of the largest and rarest collections of manuscripts and other research material in oriental languages. A Sir Syed Section has also been established in this Division containing a large stack of books and other material on Sir Syed.

In his address, the Vice Chancellor said that the Digital Resource Centre will check students from wasting their precious time on Dhabas and provide them with a better place to utilize their time in gaining knowledge. He also appreciated the efforts of University Librarian Dr. Nabi Hasan and his team.

In his speech, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Brig. S. Ahmad Ali expressed satisfaction over the completion of the Digital Resource Centre and oriental Division in record time. He hoped that the Maulana Azad Library, which is the Taj Mahal of Aligarh, will continue to flourish with time and shall remain spreading the light of knowledge. He urged the students and faculty members to make best use of this great treasure.

Earlier, welcoming the guests, Dr. Nabi Hasan, University Librarian, expressed gratitude to University authorities and library staff. He said that a number of plans are on his agenda for the development of the Library.

A brochure containing useful information about the Maulana Azad Library was also released on this occasion.
