Delhi University Being Enthusiastic Leader For Sports Students-All About DU Admissions Via Sports Quota

The admissions in Delhi University are set to begin and sports quota is the section that draws a lot of inquiries. DU provides admission to candidates through academic records and also to those who are well in sports.

Each year Delhi University provides admission to eligible candidates under sports quota and reserves some seats for sports students. This sports quota is an effective means for those who could not manage high marks to secure a seat in DU colleges.

DU will start the admission process under sports quota from June 2017. Thus, candidates have to fill the application form to seek admission under sports quota. Candidates seeking admission under Sports category shall register in the respective Colleges.

Delhi university cutoff  List  including Sports Quota for Students who have done great in Sports will be available for students who wish to take admissions in DU. All the students who are desiring for DU for further higher educations , graduations or PG courses. Admission criteria would be pretty simple as it was earlier. Students can apply it for it for various Undergraduate programs (UG) for 3 years.

Admissions will be based on 60% weightage to sports trials and 40% to certificates. However, admission dates are yet to be finalized and the final decision rests with the university vice chancellor.

There won’t be any “fitness test” – the qualifying test for sports trials wherby students first need to prove their physical fitness for any sport. Instead there will be a sport-specific fitness test within the centralized sports trials. All aspirants will now be eligible for the trials. From this year, students have to fill the centralised optical mark registration (OMR) form, apart from applying to colleges of their choice.

After the registration, fitness test follows and a certificate is given to the students who qualify the test. Then, the students have to face trials in colleges.

Earlier, a centralised fitness test was conducted at the Polo ground. This year, a few colleges have been authorised to conduct the fitness test. The test will take place on different dates so that students do not lose out any opportunity.

In 2017, the applicants won’t have to run around as the university will conduct trials for one game in one college. The marks allotted in this trial will be used by the student to apply in all colleges under the quota. According to the admission policy sports trials will include game/ sport specific fitness, fundamental skills and overall playing ability of the particular game the student gave trial for. To be eligible for admission, the candidates must score at least 30 out of 60 marks.

What you need to get in

Admissions will be made under  two categories- direct and trial based.

Direct Admission:

For direct admission candidates have to represent the country in the following competitions-

  • Paralympic games
  • Common Wealth Games, SAF Games and Afro Asian Games
  • Asian Championships under International Sports Federations
  • Asian Games by Olympic Council of Asia
  • World Championship under International Sports Federation
  • Olympic Games by International Olympic Committee

Candidates who have represented India in mentioned sporting events will be eligible for direct admission. Candidates have to upload self-attested copy of the “Highest sports certificates”. Under trial-based admissions , only those certificates that were issued between 1st April 2014 and 31st March 2017 will be recognized by the university i.e certificates of past three years only, will be considered.The university will also issue a list of the certificates which will be considered valid. The Delhi University Sports Council has also created a matrix for marks assigned to various certificates as well as achievements.

For instance , anyone who participated in World/Asian School Games or other international competitions and stood first will get full 50 marks, followed by 49 marks and 48 marks for the second and third positions respectively. And simple participation will earn 37 marks.

There is a provision of not more than 5% of total intake in each course for Sports  quota in the University of Delhi and DU colleges can admit sportspersons up to a maximum of 5 per cent of the total number of seats on offer.

The Admission under these categories shall be made in accordance with the guidelines issued by the University from time to time. Trials shall be held at two levels: (a) Preliminary Trials (b) Final Trials. The dates for the Preliminary Trials and Final  Trials and the list of short-listed candidates for the final trial shall be notified and displayed on the website of the respective Colleges and also displayed on the College notice board. The candidates shall be allowed to appear in the preliminary level only once in an event. The preconditions would remain the same if a candidate wishes to appear in the preliminary round.

Admission through Sports Trials

Based on fitness tests candidates will be offered admission. Candidates have to qualify any two tests to seek admission.

Endurance (1000 meters Run)

  • Male candidates have to complete 1000 m run / walk in 5 min (one attempt)
  • Female candidates have to complete 1000 m run / walk in 6 mins ( one attempt)
  • Strength : Standing Broad Jump (three chances)
  • Men: 1.65 m
  • Women: 1.15 m
  • Speed: 50 m Dash ( one chance)
  • Male: 8 sec
  • Women: 9 sec

Important dates:

  • Application Form are available from May 2017
  • Fitness Tests will be conducted: June 2017
