Delegation from State Islamic University of Indonesia visits AMU

ALIGARH December 7: An eight-member delegation from the State Islamic University Maulana Malik Ibrahaim (UIN) of Malang, Indonesia visited the Aligarh Muslim University and met the Pro-Vice Chancellor Brigadier S. Ahmad Ali and other official of the University.

The visiting delegation led by Dr M Zainuddin, Vice-Rector for Academic and Institutional Affairs, is on an official tour to the Aligarh Muslim University in order to explore prospects for cooperation and mutual exchange in academic and research fields. Other members of the delegation include Dr M Mujab, Head, Department of Islamic Education, Post Graduate School, Dr (Mrs.) Bayyinatul Muchtaromah, Dean, Faculty of Science and Technology, Dr (Mr.) Roibin, Dean, Faculty of Sharia, Dr (Mrs.) Istiadah, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Culture, Dr Salim Al-Idrus, Dean, Faculty of Economics, Dr M Lutfi Mustafa, Dean, Faculty of Psychology and Mr. Achmad Heru Achadi, M. Si., Head, Department of Academic Administration.

In his interaction with the visiting delegation, Pro-Vice Chancellor Brigadier S. Ahmad Ali said that the Aligarh Muslim University is an institution of national importance and disseminates education and knowledge through 108 Departments of Study. He said that there were more than five thousand research scholars enrolled in the University carrying research in various fields.

Brig. Ali said that AMU’s Maulana Azad Library was considered the biggest library in the country. He said that AMU’s relations with Indonesia were very old and Vice President of Indonesia Mr. Hata visited AMU in 1955. He said that AMU has signed MoUs with several prestigious universities of the world.

AMU Registrar Dr. Asfar Ali Khan, along with Prof. N.A.K. Durrani, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Mohibullah, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Prof. Jamal Ahmad, Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Prof. Abdul Munir, Dean, Faculty of Science was present in the meeting.

During its two-day stay at AMU, the Indonesian delegation will visit various departments of study and interact with teachers and students to collect information regarding the academic and research activities with an objective to draw a proposal for signing a Memorandum of Understanding between AMU and the State Islamic University, Indonesia.
