AMU Women’s College celebrates College Day

ALIGARH November 7:

 Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah, Vice Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University today held that the girl students of the Women’s College were the pride of the University and they were the real medium of women empowerment in the country.

Addressing as chief guest at the Annual Day of the Women’s College, Lt. Gen. Shah said that women empowerment was very much a part of the agenda and AMU is fully conscious of its responsibilities towards educating women for a comprehensive development of society. He said that women formed the 50 percent of world population and no society could afford to keep its half of population uneducated. He said that society had to utilize this force for maximum development.The Vice Chancellor urged the students to harness the powers of Information Technology. He said that it was never too late to learn new things. Information technology is the most powerful tool which can be used in attaining knowledge.

Lt. Gen. Shah called upon the girls to shed every kind of fear and stand for their rights. He said that swimming was the best exercise to develop fearlessness and courage. He urged the female students to wake up early and make use of morning hours for developmental work. He lambasted that people who wasted their morning hours in sleep were on the losing side of the life.In his address, guest of honour, Brig. S. Ahmad Ali, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University, affirmed that the products of the Women College were no ordinary people as many of them had already carved a niche for them in their respective fields.

Brig. Ali said that education was the core of a developed society and all efforts should be made to educate women if we aimed at making the whole society educated. Elaborating on an inference, Brig. Ali said that an uneducated woman could have uneducated children, an uneducated woman could have educated children but he was convinced that educated woman must have educated children only.

The Pro-Vice Chancellor said that women have equal rights as men and there is no distinction between the two from any point of view. He said that the AMU administration was very much aware of the importance of strengthening female education in the University and all efforts were being made for infrastructural development of the Women’s College including the Smart Classrooms and Library. He said, “Women’s College has always got a priority in our thought”.Brig. Ali said that the College library will soon have 9 air conditioners and a guest room for the visiting parents of the boarding members. He urged the students to work hard and reach the zenith and pinnacle of success in life. He also announced that a high-end film projector will be given to the College Auditorium for showing documentary and feature films of intellectual value.

Earlier, welcoming the guests, Prof. Naima Khatoon Gulrez said that for the first time the College Day programme has been organized with both the male and female participation. Earlier, only female members of the College were invited to witness the celebration.Prof. Naima Khatoon declared that the College students have outshined boys in most of the courses and “our students have received more than half the total medals given in the last convocation”.

On this occasion, the students of the College presented group songs and a skit highlighting the contribution of Papa Mian Sheikh Abdullah, founder of the Women’s College who was one of the pioneers of female education in India.The Vice Chancellor and Pro-Vice Chancellor released the College Newsletter “Campus Connect” which has been edited by the students.Prof. Kaneez A. Khwaja proposed a vote of thanks. Dr. Nazura Usmani conducted the programme.
