AMU conducts a 3-day International Conference on Mathematical Biology

The Department of Applied Mathematics, Aligarh Muslim University organized a three-day International Conference on “Recent Advances in Mathematical Biology: Analysis and Applications”. About 80 delegates including six foreign participants from USA, France, Japan, South Korea and Oman attended the conference and presented their papers. From India, luminaries from BARC, TIFR, IIT Kanpur, Bombay, Roorkie, NIT Warangal, Meghalaya, Delhi University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Banaras Hindu University, Lucknow University, Hyderabad University, Dibrugarh University, University of Kashmir and ISM Dhanbad etc. participated in the deliberations. The Vice Chancellor of AMU, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah inaugurated the conference.

During the three-day conference, several technical sessions were held and a plethora of research papers were presented by invited speakers and other delegates on a wide range of topics covering linear and non-linear analysis, mathematical biology and ecology, dynamical systems, graph theory, variational analysis and inequalities, functional analysis, differential and difference equations, Appriximation Theory, Numerical Analysis, Chaos and Wavelet Analysis etc.

Prof. M. Saleem, Chairman of the Department and Conference Chairman, said that the purpose of the conference was to provide researchers, academicians and engineers with a platform that encouraged the exchange of innovative ideas in mathematical analysis and its applications and to provide an environment that encouraged the formation of interdisciplinary collaborations. He said that the focal theme of the conference was application of mathematics to the biological sciences.

The conference provided a rare occasion where both pure and applied mathematicians, scientists, engineers shared a single platform to discuss the interdisciplinary application of certain branches of science.
