American Heart Association gives training to AMU Resident Doctors

Aligarh, April 4:

The Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care in collaboration with Resident Doctors Association (RDA), Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, AMU, concluded the American Heart Association (AHA) certified Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) course cum workshop. The three-day workshop was designed to provide algorithm based hands-on training for resuscitating cardiac arrest patients. Besides that the workshop laid emphasis on pharmacological and electrical interventions utilized to stabilize the critically ill patients.

AMU Pro Vice Chancellor, Brigadier S Ahmad distributed certificates to the participants of the Workshop and urged them to use the skills they learn in the workshop in their everyday duties. He also said that the University Administration is committed to make the Medical College well equipped with updated facilities.

While extending her felicitation to the organizers, the Dean Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Shahjahan Bano wished success for the workshop. She said that the three-day course cum workshop will give the opportunity to our doctors from various disciplines to prepare for clinical interventions for the management of life-threatening medical emergencies.

The Principal and CMS of JNMC, Prof Tariq Mansoor conveyed his best wishes to all Resident Doctors participating in the Advanced Cardiac Life Support three-day course cum workshop. He also congratulated Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care and the RDA for taking up this endeavor. Talking about the importance of this workshop, Prof Tariq Mansoor expressed his desire of involving foreign AMU Alumni in conducting advanced courses to take JNMC to new heights.

In her keynote address, the Organizing Chairperson, Department of Anesthesia, Prof Shahla Haleem said that every doctor training at Post-Graduate and Under-Graduate levels should learn the skills related to advanced Cardiac life support and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. The skills will prepare doctors for difficulties encountered in cardiac arrests and make them future life savers. She said “If you save lives, your life will have a meaning and purpose.”

The Course Coordinator, Prof S Moied Ahmed highlighted the significance of this workshop. He mentioned that the main purpose of this course cum workshop was to integrate the resident doctors of different speciality on one platform and make them learn one common language, the language of AHA, that is, algorithm based resuscitation. He was confident that during the course the residents must have learnt the Team Dynamics from the Instructors that would definitely improve the outcome of the cardiac arrest patients. He expressed his vision to make JN Medical College a satellite centre for conducting such course in this part of Uttar Pradesh. He intends to make the community, the society aware of the basic skills needed to save life and as per the recommendation of AHA train the school children, university students, teachers, ambulance divers, fire brigade workers, policemen etc so as to prepare them to deal any casualties in the locality or community.

The organizing secretary Dr Obaid A Siddiqui, thanked the eminent AHA certified instructors headed by Dr Manpreet Singh and Prof Lakesh Anand from GMC, Chandigarh. He extended heartfelt gratitude to all the co-instructors Dr Dheeraj (GMC, Chandigarh), Dr Rakesh, Dr Nishkarsh & Dr Anju Gupta (AIIMS, New Delhi), Dr Divya Jain (PGI, Chandigarh) and Dr Akhilesh (RML, New Delhi) and said that this academic and clinical feast would not have been possible without their help and cooperation. He also congratulated the organizing committee members for bringing this workshop to reality and thanked participants for their presence in the workshop.

Dr Tabish A Khan, President of RDA thanked the AHA and Department of Anesthesiology for providing this opportunity to the resident doctors.
