All India Students Association protests against the 100% Fee Hike in Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College

All India Students Association (AISA) today held a protest against the unprecedented Fee Hike in Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College (SPM) ,a constituent college  of Delhi University and demanded its Immediate Roll Back.

SPM college has increased the fees by almost 80% to 100% for the upcoming academic session. It has doubled the fees as compared to the previous year. Members of AISA submitted the memorandum and demanded roll back of the hike.

Meghna Mehra, student of SPM college said that “The Fees of BA (hons) increased from 3,600 to 7,685 this year and the fees for all major courses have increased. SPM being a women’s college was formed to make education accessible for women of all sections but with this hike many women students will not be able to access higher education”

Kawalpreet Kaur, President DU AISA said that “The fees for B.SC. computer science has been increased to 40,000 per semester as it is being done through self-finance mode. This clearly shows that colleges are being forced to introduce higher fees under self-financing mode where all fees will be charged from students and no grant will be received from the Government. Government’s refusal to invest in public higher education will make Higher Education inaccessible for majority of students.”
