Aligarh Muslim University organizes one-day CME on “Clinical Updates in Pediatric Cardiology”.

ALIGARH December 12:
The Pediatric Cardiology division, Department of Pediatrics, J. N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University today organized a one-day CME on “Clinical Updates in Pediatric Cardiology”.Addressing the inaugural ceremony today, chief guest, Prof. Arun K. Singh, National Advisor, Rashtriya Baal Swasthya Karyakaram, announced that the Government of India had decided to provide free medical services to child patients. For this purpose, the Government has started a Child Health programme under the Ministry of Health.Appreciating the role of Department of Pediatrics in providing medical services in pediatric field, Mr. Singh affirmed that J.N. Medical College is the only Medical College in Uttar Pradesh which is providing cure to child cardiology patients free of cost.

Guest of honour, Prof. Raman Krishna Kumar, President, PCSI, Bangalore said that there was no Pediatric Cardiology Centre in Uttar Pradesh and Pediatrics Department of J.N. Medical College deserves to be selected for such a Centre in view of its quality services provided in pediatric field.

In his presidential address, Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah said it is very difficult to provide medical services in veterinary and pediatric fields and the role of AMU’s Pediatrics Department is commendable for meeting out the patient pressure in spite of very limited resources. He said he would like the Pediatric Cardiology Centre is established in AMU in near future.Lt. Gen. Shah hoped the CME would provide the resident doctors with an opportunity to get acquainted with the latest trends in Pediatric Cardiology.

Prof-Vice Chancellor, Brig. S. Ahmad Ali said that the child mortality rate in India was very high. He said that the first Pediatric medical facility was set up in 1957 at the Christian medical College, Vellore under the guidance of Dr. Padmavati. He said that the programme will equip the practicing pediatricians to know about the latest technology and innovations in the field of Pediatric Cardiology.

Organizing Chairperson, Prof. Tabassum Shahab said that the pediatric medical facility had started in J.N. Medical College in 1964 providing medical services at the district hospital. He said despite a considerable number of pediatric cardiology patients, there is no Pediatric surgery facility available in UP, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh. He, however, praised noted film personality, Salman Khan for providing financial aid for free cardiology surgeries on children in Delhi under the auspices of his NGO “Being Human”.

Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Jamal Ahmad and Principal and CMS Prof. Tariq Mansoor expressed their views. A souvenir was also released on this occasion.Organizing Secretary, Dr. Shaad Abqari proposed a vote of thanks. Dr. Shariq Aqeel conducted the inaugural programme.
