Delhi University,Delhi:

On August 22 around 1000 students participated in AISA’s March to office of  Vice Chancellor of  Delhi University on Student Issues. Starting from Arts Faculty Gate touching all the colleges of North Campus and culminating at the Arts Faculty Gate. Students from different colleges across Delhi participated in the March.  AISA has submitted a memorandum to the DU VC containing demands for Hostel Facilities, Rent Control, Student Concession in Metro and Bus passes for both AC and Non-AC buses. The Memorandum also demanded that the DU administration reconstitute bodies against Sexual and Racial Harassment in all colleges keeping with the norms set by Visakha Judgment and Verma Committee recommendations.

The demands raised by AISA are based on the feedback campaign that AISA conducted in all the Delhi University colleges where more than 20000 students shared their views, concerns and problems about different issues related to students. Hundreds of Women students participated enthusiastically in the march raising slogans and covering the entire stretch of the procession setting an unprecedented spectacle for DU during the election season which is habituated in seeing male dominated election campaigns.

Addressing students Aman Nawaz , AISA activist from Dyal Singh College said “ Refuse the politics of money and muscle, Reject issueless electioneering. The students of Delhi University have an opportunity to build an alternative politics that survives by addressing student issues. If common students can defeat Government policy like FYUP, they can also win struggle for hostels and other facilities.”

AISA State Secretary Sunny Kumar said that like the FYUP(Four Year Undergraduate Program) struggle last year AISA will try to bring student issues in the forefront of the DUSU elections and try to give students a clear view of an alternative model of politics that is distinct from the Money-Muscle Model of Politics practiced by ABVP –NSUI.
