Engineering colleges across the country may go the medical way.
The All India council for technical education (AICTE) which govern all engineering colleges in the country is contemplating on making the JEE -Main as a single entrance tests for undergraduate BE courses.

This will mean one single all India test. Presently the Central board of secondary education (cbse) is conducting JEE – Main for addmissions to the premier IITs, National institute of technology (NIT) , Indian institute of technology (IIIT) and other centrally funded institutes..

Anil D sahasrabudhe, chairman of AICTE stated that presently some States are using JEE-Main has entrance test to fill the engineering seats in state colleges.
“we are planning to make JEE-Main has single entrance test in the country, but JEE-Main is based on cbse syllabus and different States are following different syllabus, so having single entrance test for engineering seats is still in the planning stage. ”
Like medical addmissions, students end up with writing multiple entrance tests for engineering courses too.
On engineering colleges with lack of infrastructure, low students strength, lack of faculties and equipments, Anil said committees from AICTE will visit these institutions. If flaws are found, such colleges will be shut down.
