With the Delhi Elections just around the corner, and the promotional campaigning of all political parties in full swing, The Election Commission of India decided to use this crucial time to spread awareness amongst the youth of Delhi and encourage them to vote. Kamala Nehru College, University of Delhi in collaboration with the Election Commission organized a charming event for all the college students on 2nd February 2015.
The program began with the introduction of rights of a voter and the power of voting which encouraged the students to vote in the upcoming Delhi Election on 7th February. To make the program more youth oriented and attractive to all students, the Election Commission and KNC Student Union organized a band performance of the Astitva Band. With their mesmerizing performances, the band enticed the audience and also gave the main message of the event which was to cast the vote. Salman Khan, the band lead vocalist also asked all students to promise that they do vote in all the elections and exercise the power granted to them. After the Astitva performance, there was a traditional katthputli or puppet show for the college students and the message behind it was also the same that it is high time to realize that election day is not just like other holidays, but it is the day when every citizen who has the right to vote should take out time and vote and help the nation to form a responsible government.
After the excellent performance of puppets, there was a huge uproar in the crowd on hearing the news of Varun Dhawan. Varun Dhawan and Yami Gautam, the lead actor and actress of the upcoming Bollywood film Badlapur also came in Kamala Nehru College. What was different about this film promotion that here before promoting there movie, both Yami and Varun asked all students to take a pledge to cast vote in every elections being the responsible citizens of India. After this, there was a brief fun session where Varun Dhawan danced on Jee Karda and both Yami and Varun performed romantically on Jeena Jeena, both tracks from their upcoming movie.
The Election Commission of India by shifting its focus from dull campaigning to this event which is youth oriented has helped to raise awareness among the youth. And hopefully this time, all the youth of Delhi will definitely vote.
