UPSC Civil Services result declared; women bag top 4 ranks

4 July, 2015- The result for Union Public Service Commission(UPSC) has been announced.

The first four positions have been secured by women in the prestigious Civil Service examination. The first four positions have gone to Ira Singhal, Renu Raj, Nidhi Gupta and Vandana Rao.

A total of 1,236 candidates cleared the test and were recommended for appointment to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and various Central services.

Besides 590 candidates from the General category, the test was cleared by 354 candidates from Other Backward Classes, 194 from Scheduled Castes and 98 from Scheduled Tribes.

This was the first time that the UPSC declared the final results within four days of the closing date for the personality tests or interviews.

The annual civil services examination is conducted by the UPSC in three stages – preliminary, mains and interviews – to select candidates for the elite services. A total of 1,364 posts are to be filled through the civil services examination.

The preliminary examination was conducted on August 24 last year at 2,137 venues across the country. About 9.45 lakh candidates applied for it and about 4.51 lakh appeared for the examination. Of these, 16,933 qualified for the main examination held in December last year and 16,286 appeared for it. The result of the main examination was declared on March 13 and 3,308 candidates qualified for the personality test held from April 27 to June 30.
