“University should have the best of appointments of teachers” said newly appointed AMU Vice-Chancellor

Aligarh, May 17: Aligarh Muslim University’s newly appointed Vice Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor today in a meeting with all the Deans of Faculties, Principals of Colleges, Chairmen of Departments, Directors and Coordinators of Institutes/Centres/Units, elected members of Executive Council, Finance Officer, Controller of Examinations, Dean Students Welfare and Proctor said that AMU will have no compromises on criminals and there will be no withdrawal of rustications.

In the meeting, which took place at the Conference Room of the University’s Administrative Block; the Vice Chancellor further said that there should be career counselling facilities for each Department and a proper data base of alumni should be provided.

The Vice Chancellor added that since everybody has an important role to play, he will be open to suggestions and team work will be encouraged.He has also urged the University teachers to be present in their respective departments and campus from 8: 00 am to 4: 00 pm.During the meeting, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Mansoor also emphasised on the importance of rankings. He pointed out that the University should have the best of appointments of teachers.While urging to have a transparent system, the Vice Chancellor said that academic audit will not be ignored.

The Vice Chancellor further said that research projects should be encouraged and students will be given top priorities.While concluding his address, the Vice Chancellor also pointed out that he will not attend felicitation and welcome functions. Earlier in the meeting, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Mansoor also observed two minutes of silence to mourn the sad demise of Abdullah Girls School student, Anam Aslam, who succumbed to injuries in a New Delhi Hospital.

For strengthening Academic Programmes, the Vice Chancellor today constituted a Committee with Prof Wasim Ahmad, Department of Zoology as the Director/Convener. The Committee will also have Prof Mursaleen, Department of Mathematics; Prof Qamrul Hasan Ansari, Department of Mathematics; Prof Sajjad Athar, Department of Physics; Professor Rizwan Hasan Khan, Biotechnology Unit; Professor Mirza Asmer Beg, Department of Political Science; Prof M Zafar Mahfooz Nomani, Department of Law and Dr M Naved Khan, Department of Business Administration. This Committee will recommend improvement/ strengthening the current academic programmes and suggest introduction of new academic programmes and work on other mandate to be assigned by the Vice Chancellor. 

Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Mansoor has also constituted a Committee for rationalisation of the support staff. The committee, which will have Prof Tabassum Shahab from the Department of Paediatrics as the Chairman will also have Prof Hafiz Ilyas Khan, Department of Psychology; Prof Tariq Islam, Department of Philosophy; Prof Valeed A Ansari, Department of Business Administration and Prof Javaid Akhter, Registrar, AMU. The Committee will examine the requirements of support staff in various Departments of the University/ present working strengths and recommend the transfer of excess staff from the Departments/Centres/Halls of residences to the newly established/ proposed to be established Halls of residences/ Departments/ Institutes or wherever there is shortage. The committee will submit its report within one month.

 Earlier in the day, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Mansoor also did the ritual of ‘Chadar-Poshi’ at AMU founder, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan’s tomb.
