Web awareness event organized by Mozilla community at NIIT Rajasthan

For the first time ever, the Mozillians (contributors of the open source community Mozilla) of Delhi Community, in collaboration with NIIT, Neemrana University, Rajasthan, organized an event ‘MozAge’ on 2nd October. This maiden event was held at the Rajasthan campus of NIIT and it attracted a crowd of more than 200 students.

The 12 hour event MozAge aimed to create awareness regarding web security, web designing, hacking and most importantly, ways to contribute in an open source community. The inaugural session by Ajay Kumar and Anup Mishra, the Delhi Community leads and Representatives of Mozilla (ReMo), focussed mainly on Mozilla’s mission i.e making web accessible to all. Unlike most other technical events, MozAge had a separate session on Women Empowerment/WoMoz (Women + Mozilla) that promoted the idea of empowering women using web as medium. Various workshops were conducted on web security, Web Maker, web designing and hacking.

On the very next day i.e. 3rd October, same Community members assembled at Knowlarity Cloud Telephony, DLF CyberCity, Gurgaon to take a leap forward to achieve the mission. This time, out of innumerable number of applicants, around 50 non- Mozillians were short listed to be a part of a meet-up called MozCoffee. The primary agenda was to guide the new users of Windows 10 in choosing their default browser. The secondary objective was to encourage people from non-technical backgrounds to join Mozilla. The underlying motive was to select the future core contributors for the community. To inspire the attendees, few Firefox Student Ambassadors shared their experience regarding their ongoing journey with Mozilla.
