An eminent scientist, a thought- provoking author and one of the most highly influential personalities, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam is one of the greatest gems that our country has produced.
After proving his mettle as a scientist, Dr. Kalam served the nation with full zeal as the 11th president of India, from the year 2002 to 2007. Born and brought up in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, he spent the significant years of his life in public service. He was actively involved with Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), and played a crucial role in military missile development.
Mr. Kalam has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Bharat Ratna for his excellent contribution in the field of scientific research. This visionary man has been an inspiration for millions of people across the globe.
On Monday, 27th July, 2015, the whole nation came to a halt when this Missile man took his last breath in Shillong. The man died doing something that he cherished, i.e. to enlighten the young minds. Dr. Kalam, 84, collapsed while delivering a lecture on Liveable Planet Earth, during a function in IIM- Shillong, and was soon rushed to the Bethany Hospital, in a very critical condition.
Mr. Kalam has always been a figure, appreciated and respected by people in every corner of the world. Even though he is not present between us physically, he continues to make a change in our lives through his powerful writings and speeches.
My message, especially to young people is to have courage to think differently, courage to invent, to travel the unexplored path, courage to discover the impossible and to conquer the problems and succeed. These are great qualities that they must work towards. – Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
