ALIGARH May 21:
“Teachers are the heart and soul of the Aligarh Muslim University and no development can take place without their active support”, said the Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah yesterday evening. He was addressing teachers in a programme held at the Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology.
Gen. Shah urged all to work for the upgradation of the University to number one position in the country. He said that all sections of University should work with a team spirit to safeguard the interests of the institution. He said that A grading of the University by National Assessment and Accreditation Council was also a result of concerted efforts by all.
The Vice Chancellor assured that he was ready to fulfill all legitimate demands of the Students’ Union and the AMU Teachers’ Association. Resolving to make working condition good for the teachers in new academic session, he said that the upgradation of school education was on the top priority of his administration. Further, a series of selection committees was on anvil to fill the vacant teaching positions in University schools, he added.
The Vice Chancellor informed that the Central government has provided an aid of Rs. 55 lakh for its ambitious Bridge Course for madrasa graduates. He said that Mr. Frank Islam, a distinguished alumnus of the University, has released the first installment of Rs. 1.5 crore donation for the construction of Management Complex.
Gen. Shah informed that the construction work of Sir Syed Public School in Muzaffarnagar district is on fast track start teaching in the school with the new academic session. He said that efforts are being made to establish Sir Syed Public School in every district under this project.
Addressing on the occasion, Pro-Vice Chancellor Brig. S. Ahmad Ali said that AMU will have to raise its corpus fund up to the level of Banaras Hindu University. He said that a corpus of Rs. 60 crore has been raised and efforts are on to further increase this. He appreciated the services of Prof. Rashid Hayat who has contributed meaningfully in promotion of education amongst marginalized sections and Madrasa students. Prof. Hayat has established nine schools under his School Education Trust and provided training to more than 250 Madrasa teachers.
Earlier, welcoming the guests, Prof. Anwar Khurshid of the Department of Civil Engineering urged all University staff to contribute one percent of their annual income to the University’s corpus fund. He proposed to prepare a database of all students passing out from this University every year. He said that our alumni are generously contributing to the development of the University by sponsoring Smart Classrooms and sports facilities.
