Taiwan to strengthen academic tie up with Jamia Millia Islmaia

According to the press release of  Jamia Millia Islamia, a fourteen member delegation of  Taiwan led by H.E Ambassador Chung Kwang Tien and Chieh-Ju Chen visited Jamia to interact with administrators and academic officials to take the existing collaboration to a higher level. Prof. G. P. Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Languages, JMI welcomed the delegates and talked about Jamia’s history and its contemporary engagement with the world.

Earlier in the day the delegation visited the Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar  Academy of International Studies to familiarize itself with the functioning of the Taiwan Study Centre. Prof. Prakash briefed the delegation with regard to the language programme and accomplishments under the Chinese Study Programme of the Academy.

Later interacting with the Deans and Directors of Centres, the visiting delegation expressed its desire to strengthen the Mandarin Chinese programme in Jamia. It proposed to offer scholarships to Indian students to visit Taiwan to learn the language.

Chieh-Ju-Chen, the leader of the parliamentary group that comprised the delegation, communicated her country’s desire to introduce Mandarin Chinese in all the central universities in India and also introduce the language at the secondary level in the school system. She offered all possible assistance through a bilateral arrangement for the popularization of Mandarin Chinese.

Prof. G. P. Sharma conveyed Jamia’s resolve to take the Chinese Study Programme to a different level.
