Switzerland beats Ecuador by 2-1

FIFA, Brazil :

Switzerland’s Haris Seferovic scored an injury-time winner to clinch a dramatic 2-1 triumph against Ecuador in their opening game of the 2014 World Cup in Brasil.

Enner Valencia broke the deadlock for Ecuador but the Swiss equalised in the second half through Admir Mehmedi and then controversially had a goal ruled out for offside before Seferovic netted in the final seconds.

Ecuador took the lead in the 22nd minute when Enner Valencia headed in unmarked from close range via Walter Ayovi’s whipped free kick from the left.

Switzerland boss Ottmar Hitzfeld brought on Mehmedi at half-time and the striker made a quick impact, heading in the equaliser on 48 minutes after goalkeeper Alexander Dominguez failed to command his area on a corner.

Lastly Switzerland were the winners.
