Spoon University- Delhi Chapter organized its first ever Spoon Summit ‘16

‘The world’s hunger is getting serious, there is more fruit in a rich man’s shampoo than in a poor man’s plate’

Addressing the same issue of food wastage and hunger Spoon University- Delhi Chapter organised its first ever Spoon Summit ‘16.

The summit was held on 20th March at Innov8, CP and had a host of activities focusing on the theme ‘Feed the Need’. With standup comedians ‘Wannabe Anonymous’ and celebrity Chef Saby, the summit achieved its quotient of glitz and glamour while clearly highlighting the need to give attention to the country’s hunger problems and ways to solve them.

The Summit kickstarted with a Speaker Session in which Mr Jatin Chanana, Marketing Head FooDrool, explained the working of his startup and how such companies can contribute towards solving this issue of food wastage. He concluded with a very meaningful thought that a rich man’s waste is a poor man’s meal.

Next up was the screening of the documentary conceptualised by Spoon University- Delhi members – Kritika Narula, Arushi Sharma, Sonal Chanana and Sabhyata Badhwar.

It showcased how hunger is a grave issue throughout the city and the role of Delhi Foodbanking in solving it.

It covered the working of Delhi FoodBanking, various challenges faced by them, future plans of scaling up etc. It was followed by a very entertaining gig by the standup comedian duo ‘Wannabe Anonymous’ They tickled the funny bone of each and everyone present with the hilarious jokes related to food. Some of the most loved ones being comparison of Gulab jamun to ex-girlfriends.

The concluding event and the highlight of the day was the Panel Discussion moderated by Mr Kunal Arora of The Education Tree.

The panel consisted of Mr Kuldip Nar, CEO Delhi Foodbank, Celebrity Chef Sabby, a Foodprerneur, Mr Arun Bhati, Founder, Orahi app and Mr Aashish Beergi, Cofounder, The MASH project. Some of the points highlighted in the discussions were how food is not just served to satisfy hunger but also ego, how food wastage is not a glamorous issue to reckon with and how it conveniently gets neglected from the CSR allocations. The panel concluded in a call-to-action.

The event successfully ended with applauds for Spoon’s initiative, appreciation for the speakers and panelists present and everyone took back home some enlightening points that they’ll refer to the next time they want to order an extra plate of food.
