See how this college from Mumbai contributed to “ Swachh Bharat Abhiyan”

After the first semester examinations of most of the colleges is engaged in fulfilled activities, however, some of their tenacious classmates from the NSS unit of Kishinchand Chellaram College, Mumbai stepped out with their inimitable “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan project”, which weaved sturdy bonds with the disadvantaged sector of the society.

They have adopted a village called Karvale near Saphale(Maharasthra) in 2005. After having established their trust among the villagers through various activities based on socio-economic development of the Village like toilet constructions, Kitchen farming project, Fruit tree plantation,  women empowerment projects, and cataract Cataract Surgeries, the volunteers have yet again stepped in for the which aims at providing better sanitation facilities for the villagers. This project successfully began in 2005 with the construction of single toilets followed by the construction of 49 toilets till December 2015, The intervention of Kishinchand Chellaram College started changing mindset of the people, awareness to use Toilets kept on building day by day, as a result village with 3% sanitary facilities in 2005, reached the number 78% by the end out December 2015.

To support the “ Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” announced by the PM Narendra Modi, Dr. Manju Nichani,Principal ,Kishinchand Chellaram College along with NSS Programme officer Dr. Satish Kolte decided to set a goal of providing Sanitary facilities to all families of the Adopted Village Karwale by December 2016. Having confidence in the volunteers Dr. Nichani appealed Mr. Niranjan Hiranandani , immediate past president of HSNC board to support financially to fulfill the target,  The KCNSS team along with their ex-volunteers proved the faith of their supporter Principal Manju Nichani and Mr. Niranjan Hiranandani to complete the construction of 67 toilets in 2016.

The completion of the project was celebrated by inaugurating toilets on 15th January, by  Mr. Niranjan  Hiranandani .said, “ I am  very much happy to see passionate youth who are ready to support Change in India projects like swachh Bharat Abhiyan by spending their time and energy along with their studies, and these young minds are none other but  my KC NSS volunteers .

“ in 2004 It was my dream to adopt a village, my dedicated volunteers brought this dream, in reality, today I can say I am one of proud principal who has successfully conducted “Dattak Gav Yojana,a” said Dr.Manjula Nichani

Elaborating the idea behind this initiative,  KC NSS Programme Officer Dr. Satish Kolte said,” Nothing would have been possible with the support from Principal, College management, Villagers and my dear NSS volunteers”.

“This is a small initiative by us for the villagers but it shall be impactful in the future. “, said Pritam Maji,anNSS volunteer.
