Remarkable courage shown by a 16 year old girl of Mangalore who was sexually assaulted by her father and subsequently impregnated. Recently she scored 360 marks in Karnataka Senior School Leaving Certificate, reports TOI.
A case was filed against the father under the Protection of Child from Sexual Offences Act. Following this, the child was sent for counselling and rehabilitation to district child protection unit.
During the exam, the 16 year old was eight months pregnant. Special arrangements were made and necessary support was provided to the child by District administration, reports TOI. She scored C+ in two subjects and B+ in other two subjects.

“This success has brought her happiness amid the trauma. She is content with her achievement. She’s yet to decide her next step as she’ll deliver a child in another two weeks,” said an official of the Child Welfare Committee , reports TOI.
The girl expressed gratitude towards the district administration, police, education department and Child Welfare Committee. Later the authorities spoke to her about putting her up for adoption.
Initially, the counsellors weren’t sure about the girl appearing in her exams. There arouse a problem with her hall ticket. She was supposed to write her exam at a centre where her other classmates were writing the exam, however her physical training teacher decided against it. After a request to DDPU, her centre was changed and a fresh hall ticket was issued. Subsequently, after the talk sessions, she gathered up courage and appeared for the exam.
“We weren’t sure whether she would go to the centre and write the exam because she was still under trauma. A counsellor accompanied her to the centre,” added Renni, reports TOI.
The girl exhibited great courage and determination by shining brightly against all odds and achieving her goal.
