OccupyUGC movement: ABVP celebrating “VICTORY”, AISA, NSUI still protesting and CYSS is seen no-where.

MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development) has reviewed UGC’s (University Grants Commission) decision of discontinuing non-Net fellowship scheme as per a tweet by Smriti Zubin Irani. A committee has been set up that will review all research fellowships and submit its report by the year-end — and until that time, all fellowships for M.Phil and PhD students will continue, the ministry announced. However, no such circular is issued by UGC till now.

Earlier this month, university regulator UGC decided to discontinue non-NET fellowships, leading to protests by thousands of students. ABVP, the student wing of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has converted its agitation into a “Vijay Juloos” claiming that their demands have been accepted. All India Students’ Association (AISA)and National Student’s union of India (NSUI) is continuously protesting since a week and will continue till they get an assurance in written. CYSS seems to be present no-where.

ABVP on 20th brought a pamphlet in campus claiming that their demands has been accepted by MHRD but next day they reached at UGC to create ruckus in the form of protest. How can we trust them? Said Azhar Amim from JNU who has given photographs as proof of ABVP’s return to the agitation the next day after claiming “VICTORY”.

“ABVP has never left any stone turned up in the terms of vandalizing property, hooliganism and narcissism. One can very well see this kind of pattern in Parishad’s new agitation against UGC where in the barbaric ABVP goons attacked and spread the confusion that they are in the terms with the MHRD and spreading the rumors that their agitation has brought this roll back.” Said Anadika Guleria from Lakshmibai College.

“Union HRD Minister Smriti Zubin Irani ji has accepted students’ demand to continue Non-net fellowship. She also accepted ABVP‬’s demand to extend Non-NET fellowship to all State universities. ABVP is there for the students always said Saket Bahuguna – ABVP’s Delhi state secretary.
