Newly appointed Vice-Chancellor Prof. Talat Ahmad Takes Charge of Jamia

According to a press release of the Jamia Millia Islamia,Prof. Talat Ahmad took over as Jamia Vice‐Chancellor this afternoon. The President of India, in his capacity as the Visitor of the University, recently appointed Prof. Talat Ahmad as the Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia. Prof. Ahmad is an Earth Scientist of international repute. He was the Vice‐Chancellor of the University of Kashmir before he got the top assignment in Jamia Millia Islamia.Dr. Ahmad who did his Ph.D from JNU and trained himself as a geologist went on to become a professor in the Department of Geology, University of Delhi. He had post doctoral research stints with three foreign universities viz. University of Cambridge, University of Leicester and Nagoya University.Today in his message to the university community Prof. Talat Ahmad sought inspiration from the founding fathers of this great institution to make Jamia Millia Islamia one of the premier institutions of
higher learning in the world. He averred that Jamia should provide cutting edge learning experience,internationally benchmarked education, intellectual freedom and critical opportunities in frontier areas of contemporary concern. He observed that Jamia will remain committed to producing intelligent human resource pool for the promotion of economic growth, cultural development, social cohesion,equity and justice. He opined that Jamia would need to deliberate upon reconstituting the academic programmes through introduction of Choice‐based Credit System, discuss suitable examination and administrative reforms and consider use of international benchmarks, such as Citation index and Journal Impact factor etc. for evaluating the quality of our research. He appealed to all the stake‐holders in Jamia Millia Islamia to work collectively and systematically to promote growth of the institution and make it the first choice of students.
