Maldivian delegation visits AMU

ALIGARH April 2:

A seven member delegation of Maldivian Dhivehi Language Academy, Maldives visited the Aligarh Muslim University and met its Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah. During the meeting, the visiting delegation discussed prospects for mutual academic cooperation and cultural exchange with the Aligarh Muslim University.

The delegation, led by Mr. Ashraf Ali, is on a cultural tour of various cities in India including Thiruvananthapuram, Bangalore, Delhi and Aligarh with an objective to collect information on India’s rich educational and cultural heritage. The visiting team also comprises Ms. Rafia Abdul Gadir, Ms. Naseema Mohamed, Mr. Iyaz Jadullah Nazeem, Mr. Mohamed Nazim, Ms. Shahma Ali and Mr. Mohamed Waheed who is an alumnus of this university with a postgraduate degree in Arabic.

It may be noted that the first President of Maldives, Amin Halim Didi was also an alumnus of the Aligarh Muslim University. The Vice Chancellor, Gen. Shah said that AMU has the credit to give heads of states to four countries of the world. The University conferred D. Lit., honoris causa, on Mamoon Abdul Ghayyum, former President of Maldives, in 1983.

The delegation paid respect at the Mazar of AMU’s founder, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan and visited the historical buildings of the University.
