Kshitij, the annual techno-management fest of IIT Kharagpur is the largest of its genre in Asia

Kshitij, the annual techno-management fest of IIT Kharagpur, has now become a force to reckon amongst the college youth. The fest, which had started in 2004 with a meagre participation of a few hundred students, has grown exponentially since and now, after thirteen extremely successful editions, has gained the reputation of being Asia’s largest fest of its kind.

The last edition witnessed a participation of over 70000, and had given away a total prize money worth 65 lac rupees. The fourteenth edition will be held from 27th January to 29th January, 2017. The patronage that Kshitij has gained by UNESCO and Make in India is also a testimonial of the social impact that has been created by it. According to the previous year’s statistics, the official website of Kshitij, www.ktj.in, was the largest student run website in the world, with as much as 8 million clicks in a single year.

The previous editions of Kshitij included more than 40 events spread across 9 genres which comprised of online, on spot and submission-based events. It thereby aims to provide unmatched opportunity to young talents to compete and excel in fields fields like coding, hardware designing, business planning, aeromodelling and marketing. Certification of these events by globally acclaimed institutions like ACM, ASME, IMechE, IEEE, ASCE clearly speaks of the quality of the participation. Kshitij organizes comprehensive workshops by industrial pioneers, which gives an inimitable insight to the practical realm, at absolutely no cost.

The previous editions comprised of workshops from trendsetters like Google, Microsoft, Jaguar, Texas Instruments, IBM, Deloitte on trending topics such as Computational advertising, Intelligent green building design, Cognitive Computing, to name a few. Kshitij also witnessed guest lectures from eminent personalities around the world like Mr. Carlo Cottarelli (Executive Director, IMF), Mr. Shoojit Sircar (A critically acclaimed director), Mr. Jimmy Wales(Co-Founder of WikiPedia), Mr. Naseeruddin Shah(A prestigious luminary of Indian Cinema) and Mr.Anthony James Leggett (Nobel prize in Physics).

 

Kshitij exhibited cutting edge technologies from all over the world and exhibitions like Thought Controlled Prosthesis (Helps amputees to control an artificial limb) from Sweden, Wall E Bot (Based on pixar’s animated character Wall E) from Bangladesh, Manav (India’s first 3D printed humanoid robot), Jinnbot and Kitty from Switzerland, Xombie from Malaysia are the major aspects of the fest. Kshitij also takes up initiatives to play its part in contributing towards the society.
The social initiatives taken up in the last edition were the Digital India Summit in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, and Sankalp, an initiative to eradicate child malnutrition taken up in collaboration with UNICEF. Kshitij is now heading towards its fourteenth edition. With more initiatives and events coming up, this edition promises to be even bigger and better.
