Kerala Introduced”Fat Tax”

Presenting the budget for 2016-17, finance minister Thomas Issac laying the importance of health, announced a 14.5% “fat tax” on pizzas , burgers,sandwiches, and tacos sold through branded outlets on Friday,in sync with WHO advocacy of promoting healthy lifestyle.
“There has been an alarming trend in the growth of unhealthy eating habits among Keralaites and we hope the fat tax will be a deterrent” said Rajan N, commissioner of commercial taxes.
Kerala ranks third after Punjab and Gujarat in terms of obesity, according to health experts.
The increasing world obesity rates have provoked the governments of the world to think in this manner.IMG_20160709_105246
