Kanvashram : into the deep morass of oblivion

You must have preceded yourself to the drama written by Kalidas “Abhigyanshakuntalam”, a tale which comprises a great accomplishments of the history which has also been slewed up into the great epics like Mahabharta and Skandh puran. Kanvashram the landmark of kan rishi, situated near the Malini River of the outskirts of Kotdwara, which is situated on the foothills of Shivaliks at a distance of 101 kms from Pauri District.
Heading deep into the history it was found that the importance of Kanvasharm was equivalent to the Badrinath and Kedarnath as the intellects of that time, would head toward the Kanvasharam and after bathing from there they would move to Kedarnath and Badrinath for their veneration respectively. One more interesting fact came up which brought the attentions of historian, that the place was the varsity in which the study of Vedas was preached and the place was more eminent than Takshshila, Varanasi and Nalanda about the Vedic study. The ashram also slew the story of Shakuntala her Ghandhrav husband Dushyant and their child Bharat after which we have got the name of our country Bharat.
Kanvashram is the bonanza in the field of civilization as during 80s due to the extreme flood in Malan river some of the statues pooped up after which the survey of Cultural Department of Gharwal Varsity declared that the antiques relates them between 10-12 centaury with that the statues art is sum up with Khajuraho temple style as at that time Uttarakhand was ruled by Katuries. The Gharwal Varsity has kept the two pillars and three statues under their surveillance and the Head of Archeology Department of varsity Dr. B.A.M Khandudi has predicted that if more research could be done than we would not only dig out a fully fledged civilization, also it can get enroll on the world wide forum.
Despite of all these researches and the historical background still Kanvashram is living into the deep morass of oblivion. It is because of the crestfallen government which is still into the deep snooze. The little temple, the marble statues and the Malan river, which often dream off for their identity which once were stabled by the former forest minister Mr, Jagmohan Singh in the guidance of the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Dr, Sumpurnanand in 1956, on the day of Basant Panchami. But as we know, present justify its future as it’s been more than an eon and still the landmark of Rishi Kan is into the deep gnawing as still it doesn’t find itself in the tourist maps of Uttrakhand and a big plethora of audience is anonymous with it. Every year on the day of Basant Panchami echelons (who are in the power) comes to the place and preach out their speeches which are often flooded with fickle development policies about Kanvashram due to which the work is still in shelve.
A impetus and robust system is needed which can unveil the blindfold and make them see the potential of flora and fauna which Kanvashram holds. Fostering of tourism will increase the vocation opportunity for the town people and somewhere the migration problem would also come at its limit. I think we need to reiterate the history so that we can pass our spur Virasat to our next generation.
