JOURNEY OF AN EMINENT ARTIST TO LIMCA BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS

For a student it is always important to build up his personality depending upon the lessons he or she learns from parents and also teachers. In my case, I believe that both parents and teachers have played an important role to shape my career , as speculated by our former President of India, Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam who stated that the relationship between a student, and his parents as well as his teachers , forms a triangle which is very important to guide the student in future.

I feel myself privileged to be the student of an eminent artist of North Bengal , Shri Ajoy Sarkar , who played an important role in my life as a drawing teacher. Shri Ajoy Sarkar , is a known face in the entire district of Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Coochbehar and many other places as a renowned artist. Tracking down his achievements, he achieved several awards from the state as well as from the National level. The students of his art academy believes that with his each stroke of paint brush even a still life becomes so live which is appreciated by many.

Recently, his art work of nail painting in which he has drawn the tallest panting by only using his nail , scratching strokes to portray a landscape , has been accredited by Limca Book of World Records and was published too. Mr. Sarkar always emphasizes on the holistic improvement of his students as he quotes, “ I use to suggest the parents of my students to enroll their child in any of the co-curricular activities such as drawing, singing, dancing, sports , which will help them to build their personality along with their studies.” While questioning him , about his recent achievement in Limca Book of World Records by creating a tallest painting using scratches made on the canvas by nails, he said ,” I am happy to achieve such glory and the credit goes to my students who always supports me in all my endeavors. I am thankful to the Almighty and also my parents for showering continuous blessings on me.” Mr. Sarkar’s dream turned into reality when he started up a new art institution as “Himalayan Art Academy” in Siliguri, West Bengal ; which is affiliated under the banner of Bangiya Sangeet Parishad (Govt. Institution).

The deep passion of this teacher to serve the field of art has helped him to seek attention of many eminent artist of national and international fame. His paintings and other art works were exhibited in several famous art galleries in New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, etc. which pulled in many appreciations from all corners. At present, Ajoy sir runs the art academy with batches full of students of all age groups ranging from eight to eighty. While answering a question, Mr. Sarkar said, “I strongly have faith on my students they will also achieve such fame and will be the torch bearers of my institution.” He showed his interest in opening up a Government Art College in the district of Darjeeling and stated that he has already started work for that noble vision and urged the people of the state to come forward and support this initiative. “An art college will help many skilled artists of this area to earn and feed their family members which I believe should be the concern of the government authorities” Sarkar said. As his former student I feel privileged to learn the art of drawing and crafting from the well experienced hands of the eminent artist, Shri Ajoy Sarkar who at present is the point of attraction in the city of Siliguri , but the artist believes that he is still young and miles to go before he sleeps.
