JNU to introduce course on Islamic Terrorism; faces criticism from students and teachers

The 145th Academic Council meeting in Jawaharlal Nehru University on Friday concluded on another controversial note while adding up a new course on ‘Islamic Terrorism’ in its new proposed ‘National Security’ Centre.

The Decision saw sharp criticism from both students and teachers soon it was passed in AC meet. Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union members termed it as an attempt to ‘propagate Islamophobia’ while some teachers were in view that despite raising objections during meeting they were not to put forward their views. While an Academic Council member said ‘It is important to include Terrorism while understanding National Security but it should be named as Religious Terrorism rather the former.’

Later, more than 30 academicians who were present during academic council submitted a complaint at University Registrar explaining who they were not allowed to speak. The administration as of now choose not to respond to the request.
