Jamia’s young faculty member selected as Visiting Professor to ICCR Chair at Ain Shams University, Cairo

Dr. Khalid Raza, Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has been selected as Visiting Professor to ICCR Chair at Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt for a period of one semester (September 2017 – January 2018), which is extendable by one more semester.During his stay, Dr. Raza has to design new curriculum, teach Bioinformatics and deliver a public lecture at the university.

The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) is an autonomous body of Government of India founded in 1950, whose objectives are to actively participate in the formulation and implementation of policies and programmes pertaining to India’s external cultural relations; to promote cultural exchanges with other countries and people; and to develop relations with nations. 

ICCR in consultation with Indian Missions abroad, has established Chairs of Indian Studies in various foreign universities, including Ain Shams University, Cairo. The purpose of these Chairs, apart from educating foreign students, is to become a nucleus around which Indian Studies could develop in academic institutions abroad. The Indian scholars deputed to these Chairs not only teach courses, but through other academic activities like research guidance, seminar co-ordination, publications, delivering public lectures, develop scholarly interactions with the academics of that country.

Dr. Khalid RazaKhalid Raza

Dr. Raza completed his Bachelors and Masters in Computer Science & Applications and Ph. D.  in the area of Computational Biology & Soft Computing from Jamia Millia Islamia. He has contributed over 25 research articles in refereed international journals, conference proceedings and as book chapters. He has been Project Investigator of two govt. funded research projects. He is reviewer of several international journals, member of several conference review committees.

He is also member of ACM, Life Member of Computer Society of India (CSI) and Soft Computing Research Society, Member of Machine Intelligence Research (MIR) Lab. Dr. Raza’s research work focuses on development of bioinformatics algorithms, systems biology, computational intelligence and its applications in bioinformatics.
